Common Air Conditioning Problems and What to Do About Them

Here at Sky HVAC, one thing we know is that no one wants to have to deal with air conditioning problems, especially not in the middle of summer. However, not all air conditioning problems are created equal. While a complete breakdown of your unit is clearly a good reason to call in the professionals, for many smaller problems, there’s a good chance you can do something about the issue yourself. To help you troubleshoot these types of minor hiccups, we at Sky HVAC have put together this list of solutions to common air conditioning problems.

deal with air conditioning problems

  • Won’t Turn On- One of the most common AC-related fears is that the unit will simply not turn on. However, a lack of power to your air conditioning is not necessarily an indicator of disaster—the problem could be caused by something as simple as a blown fuse or a tripped circuit breaker. Replacing a blown fuse is well within the grasp of even a moderately handy person, and a tripped circuit breaker needs only to be reset.
  • Low Airflow- While low airflow can be caused by a number of things, one of the more common culprits is dirty air filters. If you are experiencing this air conditioning problem, check the last time you replaced your filters—leaving your air filters for too long can lead to a buildup of dust and grime that cuts off the flow of air from the vents. In this case, new air filters should resolve the issue.
  • Thermostat Glitches- Another common air conditioning problem lies in the thermostat. If your thermostat is set to the lowest setting but the AC still does not kick in, chances are that the thermostat is not calibrated correctly. Consult your thermostat manual to see how to get yours to work properly—or, if that proves ineffective, call our team at Sky HVAC to have our professional technicians take care of it.
